Operational Control Systems

A Novo WTE facility is designed to meet the most stringent state and federal standards for solid fuel projects including municipal waste combustors. A facility's environmental performance is a function of three key parameters, addressed as follows:    1). Good Operating Practices - Daily plant operations are highly automated and controlled to maximize efficient combustion and minimize the potential for errors. Novo uses a state-of-the-art control system to monitor and control all operations within the facility.    2). Complete Combustion - the Novo Aireal® combustion system typically produces a 90% reduction in volume, less than 5% carbon content in the ash and extremely low emissions of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, dioxins and volatile organic compounds. Volume can be reduced by as much as 95% with optional ferrous recovery equipment.    3). Effective Air Pollution Control Equipment - Novo facilities are equipped with continuous emission monitors (CEM's), acid gas removal equipment, and highly efficient fabric filters to capture acid gases, chlorinated compounds, particulates, and heavy metals. All of this equipment can be monitored and controlled with our modern control systems. Local regulatory agencies will also monitor the performance of the facility in some cases via the CEM's and annual testing to ensure continuous compliance.
